Ask Mr. Answer Person about Trout Run Park

Posted: Sun, Feb 5, 2017 1:31 PM

(Sheryl e-mails: "Drove by the Bow String Bridge at Trout Run Park and they had taken down all the trees behind the bridge and around it.  What is the reason they did this?  Were they all Ash trees?  Won't there be erosion there with no trees when it floods?  And are they planning to replace them?  Looks really bare and not like a park at all. What's up?")

Mr. Answer Person says: "We first reported on this project last July: http://www.decorahnews.com/archived-stories/2016/07/13990.html
Of course, that was before the flooding.  So the Iowa DNR postponed the work on the project: http://www.decorahnews.com/archived-stories/2016/09/14665.html

It appears now that crews have started working on the project.  We have attached the document of the Iowa DNR's plans to this story--they're posted below.  The plans call for a paved parking lot and improved road access to the park, so I'm assuming that's what led to cutting down the trees.

There will be some trees replanted, but I have to agree with you that it looks pretty bare right now.  Stay tuned--the project will continue into early summer."
