Local volunteers continue to raise money for a Veterans Memorial in Mary Christopher Park in Decorah. The Winneshiek County Veterans Memorial Association has been formed as a 501(c)3 organization so it can accept donations.
Local organizers have set a fundraising goal of $250,000 over the next three years. A proposed wall at the memorial has been removed because of safety considerations. However, it will cost $50,000 for the base of the memorial alone.
Anyone wishing to donate to the project should visit either Decorah Bank & Trust or Viking State Bank. Checks should be made out to "Winneshiek County Veterans Memorial Association."
For more information, call the All Vets Club in Decorah at (563) 382-5232. Checks may also be dropped off at the All Vets Club at 104 State Street in Decorah.
