Work on Heivly Street and the North Alley might have to wait until after a Decorah School District decision on a new school

Five representatives from the Iowa Economic Development Authority's Downtown Resource Center early in October gave their recommendations on improvements to Decorah's downtown.
One major suggestion was an upgrade of Day Spring Lane and the parking lots off Heivly Street. City of Decorah Street Committee Chair Ross Hadley on Monday night suggested the area would be a good location for installing some solar panels above parking spots, as Decorah Bank did with its dedicated parking lot.
City Administrator Chad Bird told the city council work session Monday night, "We know that Heivly needs to be improved." But he pointed out that it might be too early to schedule work in the area, since the issue of where a new Decorah School District elementary school will be located has not yet been resolved.
Other city council members Monday night suggested city money might be spent instead on repaving Pole Line Road, with council member Steve Luse saying the completed road would be an upgraded entrance to the city.
Monday night's work session was a discussion only, so no immediate decisions were made.
