Letter to the Editor: Elect Matt Tapscott to hold Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds responsible

(The following Letter to the Editor has been submitted by Tim Wagner of Decorah):

"I don't recall a time when Iowans were in such desperate need of responsible governing.

A New York Times article this past week noted how Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds' approval rating continues to drop over her catastrophic management of the Covid-19 pandemic in Iowa. The numbers tell part of the story. As of Friday, October 23rd, the state has registered 114,629 cases, with just 1,354 on that day, a 20% increase over the previous two weeks. We've seen 1,631 deaths, with the current trend 36 percent higher in the same time frame.

Not only has Reynolds refused to issue any kind of a mask mandate, she intervenes when communities and local jurisdictions attempt to do so. Rather than be honest about the seriousness of the situation, she has continually tried to prevent state health officials from releasing accurate infections data, particularly from our public schools, which is why volunteers with the help of the Iowa Education Association are now collecting and reporting the data that Reynolds doesn't want us to have. On top of that, she is being investigated by the state auditor's office for improper use of federal Covid-19 relief dollars.  I'm not sure she could display more irresponsible behavior when it comes to the health and safety of Iowans. Yet, we have two more years of Governor Reynolds.

This is why we need to send Matt Tapscott to the Iowa State Senate. We need and deserve more members of the Iowa Legislature who are going to work hard for all Iowans while holding Reynolds accountable. Vote for Matt Tapscott for Senate District 28. It seems to me that our lives depend upon it."
