Luther College will host a virtual Candidate Forum this election.

The typical in-person candidate forum will not be held this year because of the COVID-19 epidemic, so a newly-formatted virtual candidate forum will be held instead.  Beginning on Monday, October 19th, videos will be posted on the Decorah Area AAUW's YouTube page (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCyeXsryoAfH6dI215YW2sh) and on the Luther College Center for Ethics and Public Engagement's YouTube page (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC3T5PlXxtUkRhfrsGK9h2Nw).

All candidates on the November 3rd ballot were invited to participate.  Interviews have been recorded with Winneshiek County Supervisor District 3 candidates Shirley Vermace and Julie Askelson; with Iowa House District 55 candidates Michael Bergan and Kayla Koether; and with Iowa Senate District 28 candidates Matt Tapscott and Michael Klimesh.

"The presidential contest dominates the national news, but voters are also about to make choices about state and local candidates who represent them," says Luther College associate professor of political science Carly Foster. "This video will provide the audience a chance to hear directly from candidates so that they can make informed voting decisions."

The virtual forum will be available online at no charge. It is sponsored by the Luther College departments of political science and social work, the Center for Ethics and Public Engagement, and the Decorah Area chapter of the American Association of University Women (AAUW).
