Decorah weather statistician Richard Bernatz says weather in Decorah in September returned to the usual pattern of being wetter than average,

Bernatz has calculated that 6.25 inches of rain fell in Decorah last month.  That's more than two-and-a-half inches above normal.  September joins seven other months in the last 12 months as being above average in precipitation.  For the last 12 months, 40 inches of precipitation has fallen in Decorah, which is six-and-two-thirds of an inch more precipitation than normal.

September weather in Decorah was also warmer than usual, joining eight other months in the past 12 as being hotter.  The average daily temperature in September was 63.2 degrees, one degree warmer than the average for the past 127 years.  Compared with September 2020, 45 Septembers were warmer and 81 Septembers were cooler.

September's average temperature would have been even higher if not for a cold spell the second week of the month.  The high temperature of 51 degrees on September 9th broke a record for that day by 7 degrees, while the high temperature of 53 degrees on September 10th tied the record set in 1924.
