Decorah Police officers were called to the Upper Iowa Speedway around 6:30 Thursday night because of a report that a man was driving on the track without permission.
When officers arrived, they learned the man had taken another vehicle from the area and fled. Officers located the vehicle in the 1500 block of Old Stage Road after it crashed. Officers did not locate the suspect, however.
Around 7:30 p.m., officers received a report of a stolen vehicle from the Kelly Real Estate offices on Highway 9. Officers stopped the vehicle on East Broadway Street a short time later and discovered it had been severely damaged as well.
The driver of the vehicle was 48-year-old Jeremy James Meyer. Officers determined Meyer had struck the barricades on Ice Cave Road with the stolen vehicle.
Meyer has been arrested and charged with First Degree Theft, First Degree Criminal Mischief, two counts of Operating a Vehicle Without the Owner's Consent and Driving While Revoked/Suspended. There are other charges pending.
