Northeast Iowa is approaching the 1,000 level for COIVD-19 cases

The six counties in the northeastern corner of Iowa are now just five cases away from hitting the 1,000 mark for coronavirus cases.

The latest figures from the Iowa Department of Public Health show Winneshiek County leading the area with 225 cases, followed by 185 cases in Clayton County, 184 cases in Allamakee County, 148 cases in Fayette County, 138 cases in Howard County and 115 cases in Chickasaw County, for a total of 995 cases.

There have been five deaths from COVID-19 in Allamakee County, four deaths in Winneshiek County, three deaths in Clayton County, two deaths in Howard County and one death in Fayette County.  Chickasaw County has not reported any deaths.

There are a total of 323 people still recovering from COVID-19 in northeast Iowa.  106 of those patients are from Winneshiek County; 65 are from Howard County; 63 are from Fayette County; 32 are from Chickasaw County; 30 are from Allamakee County and 27 are from Clayton County.
