The Buchanan County Amateur Radio Club and the Rural Iowa Amateur Radio Club, based in Fayette County, joined forces recently to set up a special event station at the historic Fort Atkinson.
Fort Atkinson was the fourth state park where the groups operated a station this summer. Said amateur radio operator Clair Franzen, "These events give us practice setting up our portable radio equipment." Using the same equipment that would be used in a disaster, working together allows the club members to practice establishing remote communications capability at remote locations.
