Winneshiek County residents report receiving mystery seeds

Winneshiek County Extension Office says, "We have some reports of Winneshiek County residents receiving mystery seeds."

The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship asks anyone who receives unlabeled seeds to keep the original packaging and report it immediately to 515-281-5321. If planted, the mystery seeds pose a risk of introducing an invasive plant species or seed-borne disease to the area.

Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig says, "The Iowa Department of Agriculture is working closely with the USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) to trace, collect and properly destroy these unknown seeds to protect our agriculture community from plant and seed-borne diseases."
