The Test Iowa program was set up by the State of Iowa as a way to test people for the coronavirus. But the nearest Test Iowa location to Decorah has been one in Waterloo. Local health officials say Winneshiek County residents have been reluctant to take the hour and a half drive to get tested.
That may be changing in the future. The State of Iowa has worked with Test Iowa to get a short-term testing station set up in Osage in Mitchell County and is now looking at other locations for short-term clinics—including Winneshiek County.
Winneshiek County officials have been contacted about possible locations for such a clinic. The clinic—if it is established—likely would be in operation for two weeks or some other fixed number of days. However, county officials say they are waiting to hear back from state officials and nothing is imminent at this time.
