The National Weather Service Office in La Crosse says a busy stretch of weather is expected through Wednesday as the remnants of Tropical Depression Cristobal track through the area, with heavy rainfall and flooding likely Tuesday afternoon into Tuesday night, with a few tornadoes possible.

This afternoon, widespread rainfall amounts of one to three inches is expected, with localized amounts of six inches or more possible, especially near the Mississippi River.  A few tornadoes also possible. A Flash Flood Watch is in effect.

Flash flooding could develop quickly into tonight. Expect ponding of water on roadways. Storm sewers may back up. Mud and rock slides possible in hilly terrain. Any tornadoes may cause damage to trees, structures, etc. Power outages possible. Flooding of streams and rivers could develop into mid and late week.

Wednesday will see more rain throughout the day, though only about half an inch, but wind gusts around 30 mph are likely from about 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Higher gusts could be possible.

The National Weather Sevice is asking people to be cautious when driving today, tonight and tomorrow due to possible trees down, mud and rock slides and water on roadways; as well as potential power outages if power lines are hit by trees.
