Two people die in river drownings in Fayette County

The Fayette County Sheriff's Office around 3:40 Monday afternoon received a report of two people who had gone over the dam near Clermont on the Turkey River.

Deputies were directed to Mill and River Street, near the area of dam, when they arrived.  When emergency crews arrived, a rescue was attempted.

Despite these efforts, both victims were transported to Palmer Hospital in West Union and were pronounced dead at the hospital.

The victims have been identified as West Union residents 64-year-old Sharon Kahn and 44-year-old Vicki K. Hodges.

The Fayette County Sheriff's Office was assisted by Clermont Fire and E.M.S., Elgin Fire and E.M.S., Tristate Ambulance, Gundersen Air Ambulance, The Iowa Department of Natural Resources, and The Iowa State Patrol
