Voters cast ballots in droves in Tuesday's primary election.
Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate announced the state shattered turnout records for a June primary Tuesday night after more than 500,000 voters cast ballots. The previous high for a June primary was set in 1994, when 449,490 Iowans voted.
Voter turnout also was high in Winneshiek County, with a total of 4,122 ballots cast—a healthy 45 percent turnout of registered voters.
