Ballot for Winneshiek County elected offices is shaping up

Candidates for elected positions in Winneshiek County government have until March 25th to file nomination papers, but many candidates have already stepped forward,

District 3 Supervisor Dean Thompson has said he will not seek re-election.  Both Republican Darrin Walter and Democrat Shirley Vermace have told decorahnews.com they will file nomination papers in March.

District 4 Supervisor and County Board Chair John Logsdon is not running for re-election.  Fifth generation family farmer Caite Palmer of Castalia has started a Facebook page for her campaign for District 4 Supervisor.

District 5 Supervisor Mark Kuhn is up for re-election, but has not yet announced whether he will seek another term.

All three of Winneshiek County's elected department heads up for election this fall say they will seek another term.  County Auditor Ben Steines tells decorahnews.com, "Yes, I am planning on running again.  I am in the process of collecting signatures.  I was first elected as Auditor in 2008.  Over the last 11 1/2 years I have served the residents of Winneshiek County with integrity, honesty, and dedication.  Along with my excellent staff, we provide friendly and efficient service to all residents, employees, and other elected officials of the County.  I would appreciate the opportunity to continue in the public service role as the Winneshiek County Auditor."

Also seeking re-election are County Sheriff Dan Marx, who has been sheriff since April 1st of 2015, and County Treasurer Brenda Kreitzer, who was appointed Treasurer last October, but has worked in the Treasurer's Office for 27 years.
