Decorah Park-Rec is celebrating some achievements, working on some issues

Decorah Park-Rec Director Andy Nimrod says this has been a good winter for the Park-Rec program.  Cross country skiing conditions have been very good, while the ice skating rink has had some use--but faces warmer temperatures.

Nimrod and members of the Park Board will meet at 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Decorah City Hall to review design work for Dry Run Plaza and for Mary Christopher Park, including the Veteran's Memorial.  That will be followed by a discussion of the long range goals of Park Board and Parks & Recreation Department staff.

Nimrod says one future project will be the replacement this spring of the high diving board at the Decorah Swimming Pool.  He says the department is also studying a proposal to use goats to cut down on invasive plants in Decorah parks.

Finally, the department is looking to hire 80 additional employees for summertime work.  Finding enough interested people for those positions has been "challenging" so far, says Nimrod.  "We've got our work cut out for us," he told Decorah City Council members.
