City of Decorah approves an agreement with US Cellular for small cells on city-owned poles

US Cellular is planning to install eleven "small cell" communication links throughout Decorah as a way of upgrading its service.  The Decorah City Council has approved an agreement with the company which will allow their agent—"The Grinnell Group"—to use six city-owned street light poles for the new small cells.  An additional five small cells will be installed on poles owned by others.

The agreement with the City of Decorah calls for a rental fee of $150 per site per year.  The master agreement will cover the next five years, with two additional five year terms.

State law requires cities to approve such agreements, unless there is a finding of a safety problem, right-of-way problem or lack of space.
