(Jason e-mails: "Does the Decorah School District get any income off the North Winneshiek School Property? There is some tillable crop ground their and a Heated Shop that was used for the former Bus Garage that could be rented out to offset some of the upkeep costs."):

The Answer Person says: "In response to renting the heated garage, Decorah School District's Director of Business Services Cathy Dietzenbach said, 'We are right now utilizing the heated bus barn for our buses, so we are maintaining that, along with the school building, for our own purpose.'

Dietzenbach continued, 'I have no idea about the tillable ground, so I'd need to check to see if someone is already renting it or if there's even enough land for that use.'

According to www.beacon.schneidercorp.com, North Winneshiek School covers only 27.20 acres.  Almost all of this land is already being used for the school building, parking lots, and the playground.  An estimated three acres of the property could be used for farming.

At this point, more digging will need to be done to see if the small plot of tillable land could be used for potential income.
