A Cresco man has been taken into custody by Winneshiek County Sheriff's Deputies to face forgery charges.

29-year-old Scott Simonds was arrested around 4:00 p.m. Tuesday afternoon and taken to the Winneshiek County Jail to await his trial on a felony charge stemming from two checks.

Last August Simonds was questioned by Fayette County Sheriff's Deputies about two checks written to Norby's Farm Fleet in Decorah totaling just under $600.

The checks used were from a closed account of two deceased people from Lyle, Minnesota.  Simonds confessed in the interview to writing one of the checks and giving it to another person to use.  Simonds told deputies he had filled out the check and given it to the other person to use, despite knowing that the account holders were deceased.
