A previous school district proposal for city-owned land across from City Hall
The City of Decorah and the Decorah School district are talking to each other again about a possible collaboration which could lead to a proposal for a new elementary school.
The two sides met last Tuesday for the first time in over one year. The City of Decorah was represented by Mayor Lorraine Borowski, as well as city council members and city staff members. Decorah School Superintendent Mark Lane led the school district team, which included two school board members, school district staff and a representative of the school district's Shareholders group.
In earlier talks, school district representatives wanted to buy the softball field across from City Hall in order to build a new elementary school. City officials wanted to hang on to that property because it is the last city-owned undeveloped land in downtown.
Much of last week's meeting was devoted to a general discussion. Representatives from both groups will meet soon to set up future meeting topics and meeting times.
