The total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the U.S. is 12, as of Thursday morning.
Cases have been confirmed in six different states, including Wisconsin, where one case has been confirmed. Health officials in Iowa are investigating two potential cases. Neither state disclosed where the cases were located.
Winneshiek Medical Center staffers told the WMC Board of Trustees Wednesday night that the hospital is prepared for handling a coronavirus case, if it is reported. Director of Quality Control Trudy Belay said the medical center staff listens to daily updates from the Center for Infectious Diseases and has been in contact with the Iowa Department of Public Health. "We have a plan and we are prepared," she told board members.
WMC Chief Executive Officer Lisa Radtke echoed Belay's comments, but also stressed that, at this point, there's no need to panic.
