Posted: Wed, Feb 5, 2020 9:47 AM

Luther College's Rochester Semester has officially launched with the start of the school's spring semester. Up to 20 Luther students will be spending a semester in Rochester.

Luther professors Jodi Enos-Berlage and Robert Christman, who have been involved in the creation of the Rochester Semester, earlier told decorahnews.com a key part of the Rochester Semester will be the internships in Rochester. College officials say spring 2020 semester programs will be at the Gift of Life Transplant House, the Rochester Diversity Council, Destination Medical Center and City of Rochester Sustainability, as well as in a number of areas within the Mayo Clinic, including biomedical research, biomedical informatics, finance and information technology.

For the first time, Luther students studying in Rochester will live under one roof in housing arranged by the college.  Classroom space will be used at the Zumbro Lutheran Church in Rochester. One course, "The Mutable City," will examine the challenges associated with rapid urban change, using Rochester as an example. The other course, "Writing in Community," will pair Luther students and a Rochester non-profit to produce desired writings for the non-profit.

Sunday morning at 10:30 a.m., Zumbro Lutheran Church will host a special worship service to recognize and celebrate Luther College's and Zumbro Lutheran Church's partnership.
