Winneshiek County Democratic Party Chair Nathan Thompson says "it's incredibly disappointing" that the focus on the Iowa Democratic Party Caucus is revolving around the reporting problems.

In a statement Tuesday morning, Thompson calls the reporting problems "real and very frustrating."  He stresses that "in Winneshiek County, nothing went wrong," adding, "What happened with the reporting is out of our control."

Thompson says the Iowa Democratic Party decided to rely on an untested bit of software. "As county chair, I urged our precinct chairs to exercise their judgement about how to report results--and nearly all of our precincts reported results by phone and email."

He's thanking the volunteers who helped to run the caucuses in Winneshiek County, saying they "did a wonderful job of managing this difficult process--as did volunteers at nearly 1,700 precincts throughout the state.  Thompson says he's sad that this fact is getting overshadowed by the state party's mistakes.
