Seminars on safe medication practices begin Monday

Posted: Sat, Feb 1, 2020 12:37 PM

Helping Services for Youth & Families and Northeast Iowa RSVP will be holding a series of seminars on preventing medication abuse this winter and spring in Allamakee, Winneshiek and Howard counties.

Prescription medication misuse can include not understanding medication instructions, leaving prescriptions where others can get to them, and intentionally abusing medications.

Says NE Iowa RSVP Director Deana Hageman, "We hope these presentations will alert people to potential dangers of misusing prescription medications and promote safe medication practices."  The seminars will provide information about safe storage of medications, proper disposal of unused medications and tips for taking medications as prescribed.

The first seminar will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday at Arlin Falck Assisted Living Center at the Barthell Eastern Star home in Decorah.
