Members of the City of Decorah's Streets Committee got a chance Monday night to review estimates of the cost of reconstructing Locust Road next year.

The Decorah City Council has not yet decided whether to redo the road from College Drive to Pinecrest Drive or from College Drive to Highland Drive.  Estimates presented to the Streets Committee Monday night place the cost of reconstruction from College Drive to Pinecrest at $3.3 million, while extending the project to Highland Drive would add another million dollars, bringing the total cost to $4.3 million.

The cost estimate does not include costs for lighting, which would be approximately $6,000 per pole, which depends on the agreement reached between the city and local utilities.

City officials plan to seek base bids on the College Drive to Pinecrest Drive project, then ask for alternate bids on also finishing the road segment to Highland Drive.  The decision on whether to do the additional stretch will be made after bids are received.
