Winneshiek County officials will begin studying a possible new route for the west end of Whitetail Road

Letters are being sent out from the Winneshiek County Engineer's Office to property owners along Whitetail Road, Quarry Hill Road and Highland Drive in the Decorah area.

Last winter the county closed the hill on the west end of Whitetail Road due to the road's poor condition at the time.  The closing led county officials to take another look at what could be done to improve the intersection and the hill.

Now county officials are revisiting the idea of a new route for Whitetail Road.  The new route is only being discussed at this time and is not in the county's 5-Year Road Plan.

The new route would have Whitetail Road turn to the north on the west side of the Bappe Tree Farm and then turn west along the north side of the quarry to link up with the Highland Drive intersection.

The letter from the County Engineer's Office stresses, "Nothing has been decided and will not be decided without hearing from you."
