Not all local veterans support another Veteran's memorial

A group of local veterans continues to work on plans for a veterans memorial on city-owed property. The latest site to be considered is Mary Christopher Park.
But several local veterans have written to city officials saying they do not think another veterans memorial is necessary. The letters from Rick Brown, John Carver and Bob Watson mention several points:
"We have two current veterans/war monuments in Decorah. The refurbished Civil War monument and the Blood, Sweat and Tears monument are both at the County Courthouse. We don't need another monument."
"The veterans requesting this monument say they don't want it at a city park because children playing would get in the way of their being able to quietly contemplate while at the monument. A monument at the busy City Hall would not be conducive to contemplation, either. It should be somewhere else to get the quiet they want."
"If the city allows this monument, it could be somewhere on the bike trail where it would be in a quiet place for veterans and others to stop and think about veterans and war."
