It was one year ago that representatives from Echo Development Group of Cedar Falls appeared before the Decorah City Council to unveil a proposal for building one 46-unit apartment complex on property in the Decorah Business Park, then building three other units over time for a total of 184 units. Company representatives placed the value of the project at $12 million.
Construction on the project hasn't begun yet, but one of the Echo Development officials who appeared at the city council meeting one year ago—Cory Henke—says that's because a lot has been happening behind the scenes. Henke tells decorahnews.com that his company held a project meeting earlier this week and continues to work on plans for the project. He says the Decorah project has come at a time when Echo Development Group is unusually busy—it is beginning another project in Storm Lake, for instance—but the plans for Decorah are still proceeding. Henke says the company's goal is for construction on the first 46-unit apartment to begin next summer.
