Members of the Decorah Parks and Recreation Board will meet Thursday night with a group of people which has been working on a proposal to create a new city park on East Water Street.
The concept grew out of last year's Community Visioning process, which looked at ways to improve the community. One of the proposals was to create a pocket park on East Water Street, between Chiropractic Offices and Fjelstul Funeral Home. The original concept called for a pavement bump-out as part of the park, but that portion of the idea has been dropped.
Instead, the park would have six tables, including two with umbrella coverings, a bike rack, numerous trees, a sign and some plantings. The project has an estimated price tag of around $160,000.
Four people who have been studying the concept will meet at 7:00 Thursday night with the Park Board to get reactions from board members. If the board gives its approval, fundraising for the park could begin.
