Four students from Decorah compete in the National History Day contest in Maryland

Decorah Middle School students Ada Lovelace and Sophia Gallentine, and St. Benedict School students Alex Kane and Justin Berlage are representing their schools at the National History Day national contest at the University of Maryland.

National History Day is a year-long academic enrichment program that challenges students to research, develop and present papers, exhibits, documentaries, websites and performances about historical topics related to this year's theme of "Triumph and Tragedy in History."

The four middle school students from Decorah emerged from a field of nearly 8,000 students and were among the 67 national qualifiers from Iowa.
