A third bald eagle has fallen off a tree

It's been a busy week for the Raptor Resource Project.  First one of this year's hatches, D32, fell off the nest tree.  Then the other eaglet, D33, also fell of the nest tree but was recovered.

Now an eaglet at the Decorah North eaglecam location--DN9--has fallen off the nest tree there.  Raptor Resource Project officials say DN9 has been located, but not yet recovered.

DN9 can be seen on the eaglecam in the pasture to the front left of the natal tree. DN9 took a tumble from the tree around 8:15 Thursday morning.  The eaglet is moving well now, exploring a little, but also watching its surroundings.  Raptor Resource Project volunteers have used both the nest cam and pasture cam for better looks for DN9.  Says RRP, "We are certain that the parents know where DN9 is and will help point us in the right direction to locate the eaglet."

Meanwhile, D33 is getting treatment from Saving Our Avian Resources (SOAR).  SOAR Executive Director Kay Neumann reports she could feel no fractures or swelling in the legs and wings.  She also notes that D33's tail and wing feathers are not long enough yet for the bird to fledge, concluding "Flight feathers still have growing to do."  In the meantime, D33 ate half a quail on the ride to SOAR and ate and drank more upon arrival.
