Tickets were NOT issued in last Wednesday's Montgomery Street accident involving a Waukon woman

A two-vehicle accident on Montgomery Street at Highway 9 Wednesday afternoon caused $4,000 in damages.

Decorah Police say 26-year-old Catherine Straube of Spillville was westbound on Highway 9 at Montgomery Street in the right turn lane.  The light was red, so she stopped and waited to yield to vehicles who were turning from the opposite direction.

63-year-old Lou Ann Wikan of Waukon thought Straube was going to turn, so she accelerated and rear ended Straube's vehicle.  Neither driver was injured,

An earlier version of this story stated that Wikan was ticketed.  Police officers said the accident was caused by Wikan following too closely and failing to yield the right-of-way, but they did NOT issue tickets.  decorahnews.com apologizes for the error.
