Nearly eight and a half inches of rain fell in Decorah in May.  Decorah meteorologist Richard Bernatz says that puts 2019 sixth on the list of rainiest months in Decorah in the last 124 years.

Bernatz's May weather summary shows it rained in Decorah 14 out of the 31 days.  By far the rainiest day was Sunday, May 19th, when 3.25 inches of rain fell.

The rainfall total was double the average amount of rainfall in May.  That means that for the past 12 months, Decorah now has had almost 22 inches of precipitation more than the 124-year average.

Bernatz also say temperatures were cool in May.  The average temperature reading of 56.8 degrees was 2.1 degrees cooler than normal.  Compared with May of 2019, 87 Mays were warmer and 36 Mays were cooler in the 124 years for which records have been kept.
