Public hearing on development of the former Quillin's building has been pushed back three weeks

Decorah City Administrator Chad Bird says city staff members are still in negotiations with the developer who wants to turn the former Quillin's store in Decorah into the home of a Hy Vee food store.

There are two parts to the financial aid package being discussed.  The City of Decorah is negotiating about a 15-year tax abatement totaling $425,000.  Decorah Jobs/Winneshiek County Development has offered the developer a forgivable loan of $325,000.

However, background information for Monday evening's Decorah City Council meeting noted, "There may be other details and elements currently in negotiation as well."

City council members Monday night approved setting a public hearing on the incentives--but delaying it by three weeks, setting the hearing for 5:45 p.m. Monday, May 6th instead of on April 15th.
