Community Visioning group suggests improving Water and Mechanic Street intersection

Is it difficult for a pedestrian to cross the Water Street and Mechanic Street intersection?

That was one of the questions studied by the Community Visioning group.  Their report includes plans to create bump-outs on all four corners of the intersection.  The group says the crossing distances at the intersection could be reduced by as much as 21 feet.

As part of the proposed project, the two right turn lanes on Water Street would be eliminated, but the turning lanes for northbound traffic on Mechanic Street would be kept.

The Community Visioning group says installing sidewalk bumpouts would not only decrease the crossing distances at the intersection, it would improve visibility.
