As tourism grows in Decorah, more tourism volunteers are needed

Posted: Tue, Oct 23, 2018 7:50 PM

The Decorah Area Chamber of Commerce is seeking volunteers who are excited to share their knowledge about Decorah and the surrounding area with visitors.

Volunteers are needed in the DACC office on Saturdays year-round, and seasonally on Sundays. During the 2018 summer months over 3,000 visitors stopped in to get information. DACC Director of Operations Rachel Huisman says there are currently 23 names on the volunteer list, but with only 9 of those actively volunteering, there is a need to add more volunteers to the rotation.

Volunteer responsibilities include greeting visitors, answering questions about the area, and giving directions.  Huisman says, "If you are someone who is passionate about Decorah and the surrounding area, then this is the opportunity for you. If you're nervous about volunteering on your own, we can partner you with one of our current volunteers to help get you started and show you the ropes."

An informational meeting will be held on Wednesday from 4:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. at the Decorah Area Chamber of Commerce at 507 West Water Street. Huisman adds, "This is a great way to tell everyone about our beautiful town and county and meet new people. If you have ever thought about being a volunteer, or you just love the area and want to help, feel free to stop into our informational meeting."

If you have any questions or would like more information, contact Rachel Huisman at rachel@decorahareachamber.com or call 563-382-3990.
