Winneshiek County Emergency Management Coordinator Sean Snyder has contacted Decorah Mayor Lorraine Borowski to thank Decorah for lending Spillville a hand during last week's flooding along the Turkey River.
The Decorah Street Department was able to deliver a dump truck load of sand to the area around the Inwood Ballroom in Spillville, thus preventing water from getting into the building. In fact, Borowski says an event scheduled for Saturday at the ballroom was able to be held as scheduled.
Snyder says sandbagging operations in Spillville were also aided by the Calmar Fire Department, Decorah Fire Department, Ridgeway Fire Department, Ossian Fire Department, Winneshiek County Sheriff's Office and the Decorah Law Enforcement Dispatch Center.
