The Decorah City Council has given its unanimous approval to a city budget for next fiscal year of $10,819,341. The budget reflects a decrease of $35,531 in spending from this year's city budget of $10,854,872.
Next year's property tax levy for city purposes is $14.08 per thousand, a decrease of 6 cents per $1,000 of assessed valuation. The decrease is due largely to a higher total valuation of property in the city. Decorah's taxable valuations increased this year by 8.4 percent, or $27,066,549. These valuations are set by the County Assessor and a countywide committee.
There were no public comments Monday night at a public hearing on the 2019 fiscal year budget and the city council approved the budget unanimously.
