The Decorah School District is continuing to ask parents and guardians for help in keeping flu cases out of local schools.
Decorah Community School District Nurse Julie Goedken has sent a message, reminding the public that the number of Decorah students who have been absent from classes because of illness has been on the rise. Says Goedken, "The illnesses are varied, but Influenza has been present and remains a concern."
The Decorah Community School District's policy is that students may not return to school until they have been free of a fever and from vomiting and/or diarrhea for at least 24 hours (without the use of Tylenol or Ibuprofen).
Goedken says parents and guardians should look for flu symptoms among children, including fever and/or chills, headache, body aches, coughing, stuffy or runny nose and sore throat.
Says Goedken, "If you suspect that you or your child has Influenza, we encourage you to see your healthcare provider and follow their directions."
