Mr. Answer Person knows it's New Year resolutions time, so that must have been on the minds of some of our readers:
One reader asked why people drive through town with their vehicle's bright lights on. Mr. Answer Person agrees that it's a good time to remind people that Iowa law requires motorists to dim their high-beam headlights 1,000 feet from oncoming traffic and 400 feet for traffic you are following. The law covers all roads in Iowa, including Interstates.
Another reader wanted to know why City of Decorah snow plows came past his house five times during the recent snowfall. Mr. Answer Person understands that the noise can be a bother--but not as much as a traffic accident on slippery roads!
Finally, the topic of transportation questions gives Mr. Answer Person a chance to again discuss his pet peeve--motorists on Water Street who don't stop for a vehicle ahead of them which is parallel parking. Mr. A.P. recently clocked the amount of time it takes to parallel park on Water Street and discovered that in most cases) it's less than 15 seconds. That seems like a small amount of time to avoid hitting a car in front of you as it parallel parks!
