It's been a year since the Chargepoint Electric Vehicle Charging Station was installed at Luther College. According to Luther Facilities Services' Facilities Coordinator Leah Benzing, it's going well. Drivers of electric cars can use the station to recharge the batteries in their cars for 50 cents each time. The charging station is located behind the F.W. Olin Building.

"The Chargepoint station has been successful so far. When we installed it, we were aware of about 6-7 faculty and staff who owned plug-in hybrid vehicles," shared Benzing.

Chargepoint sends Luther a monthly report of use. It is used to mostly identify the revenue coming in. Luther College can tell it has had 39 unique drivers utilize the station for a total of 508 uses over the year. One user plugged in 123 times. Other users plugged in 82, 61, 45, and 37 times.

Benzing added, "The Chargepoint system is simple for us to manage, as Chargepoint manages all of the fee collection and data tracking. We will continue to evaluate the use of the 2-port station to determine whether additional stations are warranted in the future. As plug-in hybrids become more mainstream, we expect the utilization rate to increase."
