It was cold in Decorah in the first half of November, then it was warm in the second half.
Decorah meteorologist Richard Bernatz says the "tale of two halves" saw the average temperature for the first half of the month be 5.05 degrees below average and for the second half of the month be 5.99 degrees above average. That left the month just under one degree warmer than average, with 58 Novembers warmer and 65 cooler in the 124 years for which records have been kept in Decorah.
There was no division in the month of precipitation, however--the month was consistently dry. 0.54 inches of rain fell in November, which was 1.30 inches less than the average of 1.84 inches. There were only five days out of 30 in which there was measurable precipitation. November was the fifth month of the last six with below average precipitation.
