Pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle in cross walk

The Decorah Police Department reports responding to an accident involving a pedestrian and a motor vehicle at 8:37 p.m. Friday.

68-year-old Patricia Johnson of Decorah was traveling south on State Street in her 2011 Honda CRV. While making a left hand turn under a green light to head east on Water Street, she struck Aleesa Baakko of Decorah. Baakko was utilizing the cross walk to cross from the northeast corner of the intersection to southeast corner by Don Jose Restaurant. When Baakko was almost across the intersection, Johnson's vehicle struck her within the cross walk. Johnson reports she did not see the pedestrian in the cross walk.

Johnson pulled to the side of the road and called 911. Baakko was transported to the ER for evaluation.
