


The Winneshiek County Sheriff's Office says Deputy Jeff Berns is being promoted to Lieutenant/Second Deputy. His primary duties in his new job will be to serve as third in command of the Sheriff's Office and to be night shift supervisor.
Berns is a 27-year veteran of law enforcement, with the past 25 years with the Winneshiek County Sheriff's Office. He has served as an investigator and as a field training officer. He has also worked in narcotics and also has been a member of the Winneshiek/Decorah Special Response Team since its inception in 1994.
Berns has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminology from The University of Northern Iowa.
Sheriff Dan Marx says, "Lieutenant Berns has a wealth of knowledge, experience and expertise. (He) has earned the respect of his colleagues in law enforcement and will do a fantastic job!"
