Decorah High School graduate Elizabeth Smith will be one of three people to receive the 2017 Gov. Terry E. Branstad Iowa State Fair Scholarship from Governor Kim Reynolds at 7:00 p.m. Saturday on the Anne & Bill Riley Stage at the State Fair. This scholarship recognizes outstanding Iowa high school seniors who have actively participated in the Iowa State Fair and plan to attend an Iowa college or university. Smith will attend Iowa State University this fall.

Elizabeth's application described the joy and sense of accomplishment in exhibiting a calf at the Iowa State Fair, even as she watched another competitor win the championship. "I was not there to win, I was there for the memories," she wrote.
