National Weather Service La Crosse Office meteorologist Todd Shea toured storm-damaged areas of Winneshiek County on Tuesday.  He tells decorahnews.com his initial conclusion was that there was an EF0 tornado west of Calmar near Lake Meyer as part of the storm.

Shea says the combination of wind gusts from 60 to 80 miles an hour and large hail did a lot of damage, especially in the Fort Atkinson area.  He says damage was concentrated on damaged siding, car windows and downed trees.

Shea says the field surveys he and other meteorologists took will be compared with the data the NWS received during the storm.  He says the National Weather Service is also very interested in the human reaction to tornado warnings--did people hear the warning?  If so, did they take action?  He says the answers they get will help improve severe weather notifications.
