A grant received by the Decorah Tree Board that paid for planting 54 trees along Montgomery Street on Earth Day will now be extended to cover Broadway as well.
Decorah City Forester Robin Sailor said there was a small amount of funds remaining after paying for the Montgomery Street trees, so the grant providers allowed the money to be used on East Broadway Street as well.
According to Sailor, "The Tree Board was able to offer one tree replacement to the 12 landowners on East Broadway that were affected by this spring's EAB removal."
The grant was funded through a partnership with Trees Forever and Black Hills Energy. The trees planted on Montgomery Street ranged in variety from ornamental to shade trees.
East Broadway homeowners who have been contacted by the city have a deadline of May 31st to receive a free tree for their boulevard. There are limited tree varieties available. Plantings are being done by the homeowner, with volunteer assistance being offered to homeowners who may need it.
