Consistent with long term technology plans, the Decorah Community School Board approved the "refresh" of 180 MacBook computers for the district. The $297,551 contract is for a lease/purchase agreement in which the district will purchase the computers for $1 each after three years. Then upon decision to get new computers, the old computers will be resold to a vendor and that amount can be applied to the next round of new computers. This summer the old computers will be sold for about $50,000.
The district has saved money by delaying the new lease/purchase for one year, beyond the planned four year "refresh" plan.
No comments were received for the public hearing in regard to the expenditure.
