Winneshiek County supervisors have made one decision in the wake of the accident Friday that destroyed Dahly Bridge near Bluffton over the Upper Iowa River.
Supervisors rejected a proposal from Julie Bowers of NSRGA/WorkinBridges that her organization be hired for $35,000 to remove the bridge from the river in such a way that it could be used in a historic renovation. The county has received a bid from Brennan Construction to remove the bridge for $4,000.
Supervisors said it was not just the price that mattered to them--Brennan Construction could remove the bridge more quickly. Supervisors said they want to limit the county's liability stemming from having a bridge in a river that's used for canoeing and kayaking.
