There was no public comment Monday night as the Decorah City Council held a public hearing on the city's proposed 2017-2018 budget.
The budget calls for a tax levy rate of $14.146 per $1,000 of assessed valuation and a total of $4,504,237 in collected property taxes. The revenue represents an increase of just $64,000 in property taxes.
Next year's spending of $10,854,872 will be $2.5 million lower than this year's spending--due to lower intergovernmental grants and lower bonding proceeds. The budget will spend $2.3 million for public safety and $2.2 million for public works.
